KURANUI HILL UNITED.

j At about eight o'clock on Saturday night considerable bustle was evinced at the Corner owing to the report that gold had been struck in the Northern crosscut, at the 650 feet level of the United Pumping Association. Nor was the report without foundation. It appeared that one of the contractors broke out a stone which he suspected contained* gold. He tested it and wasisatisfied that his surmises were correct. The manager, -Mr J. W. Walter,' hearing the news later in the evening went down tho shaft at twelve o'clock last night and broke out some stone from a small leader showing gold. The leader also contained a considerable amount of mineral, which is generally allowed to -too a sure accompaniment' of gold. Mr Walker brought up some more stone this morning showing some good color* of coarse gold in white crystallised quartz. The driving will go on as usual,' and perhaps in a few days something .worth .while will be intersected. This is probablgjhe deepest level in which gold, has plen obtained in New Zealand.
