PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
The country through which the north cross-cut takes its course continues very good, and the contractors are really making excellent progress, which is a matter for congratulation to . both the employers as well as the employed. The usual fortnightly measuring up took place yesterday niorniug, when it was found that 47 feet had been driven -since ;3fchat day a fortnight before. The total length of the cross-cut'in from the shaft is 579 feet. The present contractors, from employing more men and the soft nature of the country, are able to do just about* three times as must work as the former contractors:, did. The present speed of the pump is^ about 3 strokes per minute, f The work of making the balance-bob is going on, but in Consequence of the large size of the timbers, etc., it is proceeding rather slowly, and will-not be "working this week.
