GOLDEN CALF.
Crushing was completed last night at Ball's battery-for the proprietor Mr R. McDonald. During the crushing, which occupied a little over a week, 70 tons of quartz were treated, and the return amounts to ,89|ozs gold. 5 ; This vis not as : good as the last one, but it is payable. AH work has now been stopped in the bottom level, with the exception of the sinking of tjlie winze,, which will be completed in about another week if all goes well. The proprietor intends ;to open out the new level from the foot of this winze, and the buckets will be worked by the main winding gear. * To effect this the rope will need to be carried through the drive to the winze head, where a set of poppet legs is about to be erected. Bagnall and party, the tributers working on the Noi 2, reef, are doing pretty well, and are occasionally taking out parcels of picked stone and specimens. The/ will probably be crushing shortly.
