ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
The s.s. Ebtomahana^ started this morning for Auckland and the Hot' Springs at , Waiwera, for which latter ; place some fiveiand-twenty people took return tickets. Besides these about 70 passengers em* barked, for Auckland, so that though a spacious vessel the Eotomahana was pretty well crowded. The day was fine, and all started in high spirits, apparently - bent on enjoying .their holiday. The members of the H.A.C.B.S. assembled at their hall at the appointed time, and, clad in their appropriate regalia, pro.ceededto St. Francis' Church, Shortland, where, an address on the life and times _.'-• of St. Patrick was deliTered by the Eev. Father Chastagnbn. .'They marched thence in procession down Pollen street, the band to thenumbtrof fourteen leading the way, followed by members of the Society marching two and two to the number of about 50. The bannerooff f the Society was dividing the band (14 in number) and the other members, arid the whole proceeded" to Tararu. Cab 3to convey relations and friends seemed to be in great requisition, and a large number of people accompanied the procession on the side walks. A football match took place at Tararu betwe,en two teams of married aud single members of the Hibernian Society, 1.6 on j each side. The sidles were evidently about | ..equal, in strength as by three o'clock neither* had been fortunate enough to secure.a.goal. Several foot-races for small prizes were to follow, and the Hibernian '.Society was .to return at about 5 o'clock. There were 1 about 500 persons on the ground including those in the Gardens.
