MOANATAIRI.
As" the quicksilver was required the 1 mrnager resolved to depart from the on? nary rule of retorting once a foijnight, and retorted the amalgam on hand on Saturday afternoon for the handsome return of 905|ozs retorted gold. This is the result of one week's crushing with 5 head of stampers, and none of the specimens have been put through with the exception of a comparatively small parcel. This crushing was not kept up very regularly, sometimes only going one shift in the 24 hours. There is a very large parcel of specimens on hand — several hundredweight — and as these will be crushed during the week in addition to the general stuff and the specimens which come to hand between this and Saturday, the next retorting will be necessarily a very large one, it having been stated that 2000ozs will be something like the yield. An exLremely rich specimen was exhibited in the Bank of New Zealand today, and attracted a good deal of attention. It is estimated to contain 60 or 70ozs of gold. Gavia and party completed tLe berdanning of 75lbs of specimens and picked stone at the company's battery on Saturday, for the fair retui i of 25ozs retoited gold.
