QUEEN OF BEAUTY.

Since the resumption of work in this mine after the stoppage caused by the last break down of the pumps, no event of auy, importance has transpired. The contractors have been steadily employed driving north and south, and at present they are so far on with the contract that they expect to break into the winzes in a few days. At the battery crashing has been going on uninterruptedly all through the week, and a considerable proportion of the stuff put through has been test lots. The ordinary quartz is shaping pretty well, being of about a similar grade to the stuff" crushed during the last two or three months. Mr J. U. Perry is at present employed making a turbine wheel, which when completed, being worked by water from the new Government Water Supply, will supplant the steam power now used. It is not intended to entirely depend on .the water, as the boiler and engine will be kept in position so that if any accident should befall the water race, etc., the battery would not be required to stop. The wheel is said to be a great improvement on those now in use, and it is expected that it will be working early next month. The cost of alterations, etc., will, soon be made up by the disuse of coal, which is at present a very heavy item.
