The weather is all that pan be desired. The attendance is fair. Play commenced
at noon. -Howe.il and Galbrailh were first in, to the bowling of Southerton and Eihmett. The former got the first over. Emittett's 'left-handed " peculiars " were not relished. Howell drove Southerton over the fence for four, .Galbraith got two singles, and then put the ball into Ulyett's hands—l.2.B. Cross joined Howell, when the latter was stumped by Selby—2.s.B. Kingswell went to the wickets, getting a duck's egg shooter from Emraett. The Inverchi'gill men were apparently loth to come to the wickets, ..causing unnecessary delay, doubtless trying to secure a drawn game, the Englishmen having to leave the Bluff at 4 p.m. At length Murray appeared, and Ulyett caught Cross at long-on — 4.1.9. - Buchanan came to the scratch somewhat more speedily, and Charlwood took a chance from Murray—s.o.ll. H. Morrison joined Buchanan, the latter drawing Southerton for two, and driving same bowler for four. Emmett then sent Morrison to pavillion—6.o.l7. Keade (Captain) took Morrison's place, when Greenwood got a chance from Buchanan, which added another to the 51ain—7.7.22. R. Westney shortly followed suit by making hia exit by the second ball from Emmett — 8.0-22. J. .Westney joined Keade for a short time, but, receiving similar treatment at Emmett* s hands as his brother, retired—9.l.2B. J. Morrison: after some delay, came to the crease, arid; was disposed of :by Jupp at mid-off— 10.0.29. Singles . followed. When luncheon was. called the telegraph showed— 10.0.32. On resuming play, Southerton got Reade's centre stump, but not before the batsman succeded in reaching double figures—-11.10.32." Eoss quickly siic.ceeded, but Southerton - repeating the dose, Ross retired-—12.0.32. Yuille, on going in, drove Southerton for 4. Levy skied Southerton, and retired—l 3 2.36. Mills next went in-, and. received a maiden over from Emmett. Selby smartly stumped Yui11e—14.4.40. Howard made two singles, and was then bowled by Emmett. Pickford filled the vacancy. Shaw then caught Mi 115—16.2.42. Ash taking Mill'%. place, retired at the first ball from Southerton—l7.o.42; Stock was run out, after scoring two singles. Smith next went in, and at the first ball from Southerton he came to grief— 19.0.46. .Time, 3.25, Hey wood was neatly taken by Selby at the wicket, off Southerton. Searle, the last man, then went iii, when Emmett took Pickford's timbers. All out for 46. Time, 3.33. Extras, 8. Bowling analysis: Southerton bowled 96 balls, 13 maidens, 24 runs, 11 wickets; Emmett bowled 24 balls, 15 maidens, 14 runs, 9. wickets, 1 wide.
