The Ngaruavaliia Murder.
Tie. prisoner Te P,atui, now/ awaiting his trial in Mount Eden Gaol, is behaving himself as most '■ Maoris do when 7 they know that they have committed! a crime, and feel that they must'face (lie consequences. . He ia silent and "mor'pse, and to, all. appearance has resigned himself to his" fate, whatever that may be. The Maoris apparently consider his case as settled. When he was jetting on .the coach, at Ngaruawahia, -several Maoris who wer« standing by ' said, " One ' month, yotit hanged." In connection with the apprehension of Te Patui, it is right to mention the promptitude shown by Messrs Hedger , and Kay, who started after him from
Xigaruawahia, and who were close on bii heels when he was captured, although he had had two hours' start, was well mounted, and knew the country well.— Herald. .
