The temporary Government bridge over the Eawhaka ! river was carried away, cutting off communication between the camp and the range. An attempt will probably be made after dinner to get through the 6th Carbine Match. The weather still looks threatening.
The Fifth Infantry Match was finished yesterday. McLeod and Ure Whare took prizes in it. This match leaves only the sixth to go for the Belt — 7 shots each at two, three, four* five, and six hundred yards. At the conclusion of the fifth match Eichardson of Otago was ahead. McLeod stands eight, Clarke 19, Murray 23, Brownlow 27, Armstrong 38, and Whare 46. In the aggregate McLeod is the only Thames man who has a show for the aggregate. He has been shooting very steadily, and is a much higher score now than the champion was last year. The two hundred yards of the last match was fired late last night, and McLeod, Clarke and Murray improved their positions. Brownlow and Armstrong iost a point or two. The rain stopped proceedings to-day. The InfantryBelt is likely to be concluded on Monday • the Carbine Match this afternoon.
