PIGEONGRAMS.

OHINEMUEI.

(feom oub own cobbbspondent.)

W-ajtekaubi, This day, 11 a.m.

lam glad to see by Saturday's Star that my statement re the proposed tramway is incorrect. I can only say that my information was derived from one that should have known the. true facts of the case; and another thing, people here put a little faith in my report, as one of the Waitekauri directors was the first to promulgate it. There might be some object in view by doing so, but not knowing, I can't say. . Last Saturday in the Waitelauri mine No. 2 winze was 80ft deep, 16ft wide, and no signs of hanging wall; no change in appearance of the stone ; a little gold to be seen occasionally. The main level was on that date within 40ft of line of No. 2, and as the manager intends taking the winze down a small size and in the footwaU,connection with the main level should be made in the course of a fortnight. The block at Queen end is not shaping for as good a yield as hitherto in consequence of which some of the hands got their walking ticket yesterday. v Welcome Gr.M.Co.—A great improvement has taken place in this mine the. last few days, as No. 4 leader has opened out to a fine b©dy of stone about 3ft wide in both cross-cuts, and in the.south drive most excellent prospects are obtained, and the mine manager is confident he is coming on to a good shot of gold. A public meeting is to be held here on Saturday, object of such meeting being to impress upon the County Council the imperative necessity of improving the track between* here and Paeroa before the wet weather sets in. <
