The match All England t. Twenty-two of Westland commenced on the racecourse to-day at one o'clock. Westland 5 won the'toss, and the captain (Guinness) decided that England should go to the wickets first. The ground was in capital: order, a splendid wicket being pitched, but the spectators did not number more: than 300. Charlwood and Jupp opened; the game to the bowling of Perkins and MeGregor. Jupp made four singles, when he was caught by McGregor---1.4.24. Ulyett joined Charlwood, who was playipg very steadily, when he was caught by McGregor—2-13.21. 1- Greenwood then' joined Ulyett, who was running up a fair score when caught by McGregor—3-17-44.; Selby was the.next man, and had made 8, when Greenwood was given but 1 b wi —4.9.47. On resuming after lunch Selby had hurt his leg, and Armitage wjas al-; lowed to run for him, but after adding another 5, he Was run 0ut—5.13.53. Shaw* who had joined Selby* was playing very carefully, ; scoring by; singles and an occasional couple, when he, played a ball into his wickets off Perkins—6.24.94. Emmett followed, and was bowjed by McGregor the first 0ver—7.0.95 .Armitage was next, faced by Hill, but the latter after scoring three was clean bowled by Morse-8.3.102. Lilly white followed in and out after adding 2 to the scored—9*2.loß. Southertbn was the last man to go in, and had just made four single's when Armitage was caught by Guinness— 10.24.119j This finishing the ■ first innings in a little over three hours.. . Greymouth commenced their in r nings by sending Barnett and Pearce to the wipkets, to the bowling of Lilly white and Southerton. The first ball of the first over, bowled by Southerton^ sent Barnett's stumps flying—l.o.o. Newton joined Pearce, when the latter sent a skier into the hands of TJlyett, which he retained—2.o.o. Cresswell then followed, and when Newton had made a couple of singles, the stumps were drawn. The game will be resumed tomorrow at noon,, but the weather looks threntening.
