NELSON.

Thursday,

There was another 'beautiful day for the match. At 12.30 Jupp and Selby resumed their places at the wickets, T.Eden and Fowler bowling. For an hour they kept together, but the' bowling was so good they only made 9'runs, when Jupp knocked the wickets in playing a ball from Eden—ls7-2 34. Greenwood joined Selby, and shortly after the latter was

given out 1 b w, bowled by Eden, after making a splendid score of 82—three for 170. Ulyett took his place, and the two were'kuocking the balls about in style, when an adjournment for luncheon at two o'clock took place/the score then being 19<1.

After lunch play was resumed, and, at the fourth over from Fowler, Ulyett was caught off the shoulder of his bat at slip by Knapp, after making 19—4 for 201. Shaw was next, and, after scoring 8, he was clean bowled by Eden—s for 218. Emmett followed quickly; scored 9, and was cleverly' stumped by Cross. Hill took his place, but was soon disposed of in an unusual way—Greenwood, from the other end, hitting the ball towards his wicket, into which- it was turned by the bowler's arm, Hill being out of his ground at the time—7 for 236. Pooley then took the bat, and, with Greenwood, kept the field alive for some time, .until the latter put up a ball off Fowler into Knapp's hands, after scoring 42—8 for 258. , Lilly white followed, but at the first ball he was stumped by Cross off Ellis. Southerton was then caught at his first ball by Halliday, oif Ellis ; all ort for 258—which included 3 byes and 10 wides. Uelson sent Halliday and K. Knapp to the wickets at 5 o'clock, and at the eighth over Knapp was bowled by Shaw, after making one. Hyde followed, and he and Halliday kept their wickets until half-past five, when the stumps were drawn, the score being 11, including 5 byes. '
