CURE.

Crushing will be commenced for: this mine at the Tararu battery to-morrow, there now being a considerable parcel at the mill. ■ The crushing would have started the beginning of the week, had not the late fresh carried away several parts of the flaming. This lot will amount to about 60 tons. The means for conveying the quartz to the battery is one that has been out of use for some time. It is taken through the Caledonian tun-. nel and. down the Caledonian incline tram way, from the foot of which it is taken along the Tararu tramway to the battery. At present the company is only doing two pieces of work. The first of these is stoping on the No. 6 reef at the Caledonian No.. lor 210 feet level. The reef is improving. The second piece of work is a drive on the No. 6, towards the Manukau. In this work the manager is assisted by Messrs Jones and party, the Manukau tributers, who intend to follow the lode into ' their own ground. The reef averages about one foot through, but is sometimes as large as three feet, and as small as sik inches through. For the last 20 feet or so it has been looking well, gold being seen and several nice stones have been lately taken out. It is worthy of note that the lode is heavily charged with mineral, and that is accepted as a good sign. The manager has lately been advertising to let-five blocks on tribute, but up to the present only two blocks have been tendered for, and they will probably be let before the end of the week.
