AUCKLAND.
This day. W. J. Hunt, Sterndale, Mair, Hill, and Wilson, of Cambridge, purchased the schooner Canterbury intending to go to Suwarrow and Seigo Island. The Canterbury has been loaded with, trade, and lies in the stream ready to sail, only waiting for the customs clearance. Hunt was a principal in the purchase and paid a portion of the purchase money, the balance being left on mortgage. The conditions were to insure the vessel, but he did not do so. To-day Hunt went to Kussell and Devore, and desired to see the deed. When they were handed to him, Hunt put the two in his breast pocket, and said, " I will keep these," and went out. !Nolan (clerk) gave chase; Hunt jumped down a bank fifteen feet, the clerk followed^ and a great tussle ensued. Hunt ran to the Post Office. The fight was renewed under the portico. Ifolan called a policeman, who arrested Hunt. The latter then surrendered the deeds. Hunt was released at the Police Station. .
