We believe that it is probable Howorth's original Hibernica will shortly make the lour of this Colony, with Alphabetical Williams as agent. We have received an advance bill of this " show."
We must impress upon correspondents the necessity of curtailing their letters. If they would write more briefly they would find their letters inserted more promptly, but we cannot guarantee the immediate publication of long communications.
As wo are going to press we notice that the various volunteer corps, who were summoned by advertisement yesterday, are mustering at their respective drill sheds to attend the. funeral of the late Nigel H. We have to hand The Illustraied New Zealaud Herald for February. There is a view of the Otago steamship on shore at Cbasland's Mistake, Installation of Dr Moorhouse, Bishop of Melbourne, and a number of other very pretty pictures calculated to make this paper a favorite in the family circle.
It would appear that there is yet corn in Egypt, otherwise specimens at Tairua, as we are informed that last week two men came upon a " plant " of specimens which they brought to town, and from which they obtained £50 worth of gold. The locality of the find, it seems, is ,a mystery.

We notice that Mr W. Plant has opened a dispensary in Mary street in the shop adjoining that formerly occupied by Mr Kobson. The premises, are convenient, being situated centrally, and Mr Plant's, ability to prepare medicines may be judged of by the fact that he has had more than nine years experience as a compounder of medicines, three of which were passed in the chief Hospitals o^ Ireland, and more than six in the General and Field Hospitals of the Province of Auckland. These facts speak for themselves.
Amongst the toasts drank last night was that of the local industries of this place, and the proposer mentioned several well-known fir«ns. Had he seen the grapes which are at present on sale in Mr Jeffrey's shop he might have added another to his list. These grapes, which were grown by Mr Hayes near Bull's Battery in the Earaka, are very fine, and of excellent flavour, many of the bunches averaging from 1| to 2 lbs each. With these specimens of what can be done with proper care and attention, we- see no reason why grape-growing and winemaking should not take its place amongst our local industries. .
