WAIO-KARAKA DRAINAGE.
■ The pumps are really working splendidly, and appear to do their work without the slightest straining or fear of breaking. The average , speed of the fmmps— 13 strokes per minute—36o galons being raised in that time. The reduction is rapidly proceeding, the water now being about 14 feet below the No. '6 level flatsheet. If the reduction was to go on at this rate, the water would be out in a week, but that will probably not be the case, as the drainage becomes much'heavier when within 20 or 30 feet of the- bottom. If 12 or even 14 days see the water forked the pump may be said to have worked. 1 splendidly. A slight accident happened to the pumping rod on Sunday afternoon, and it entailed a delay of several hours, which, however, was not of much consequence.
