Cup race, three hundred soys., two miles. This'Wns a splendid race. Soven started—-Guy Fawkes, Tambourini, Ternpleton, Morning Star, Glengarry, Treason, and Princess Mary. The lead was taken by Princess. Mary, but Glengarry soon challenged her. The Guy came to the front. An accident happened to Princess Mary's ruler,' who carried away his stirrup, but notwithstanding the mishap the boy rode well, and made it very hot for Guy and T^mpleton. Then ensued a fine trial of speed between the three leading horses, the result being that Guy won by three quarters of a leneth, Tambourini second, Treason third. The rest close up. Time: 3mins. 52seca.
Handicap Hurdle Bace, 100 sots, 2\miles. An exciting race, several spills, and a very hot trial of speed took place between St. Albans and Whetuinarana, but the Maori had most go in him and won bands down, St. Albaus being fairly
pumped. Victor, who was riding third, had a narrow escape of being crushed. After .being thrown at the first hurdle he was thrown again at the last hurdle, although quite out of the race. The lumping was very good. Tommy Dodd disappointed people, being early out of the race, having refused a jump. .Ihe Park Stakes of 10 soys, one mile; only two started —Fallacy and Songster. The following were scratched : Lady of the Lake, Stirabout, Danebury, Morning Star, und Guy Fawkes. It was not much of a race. Fallacy went off with the lead, and. won easily, hard held, by a dozen lengths. The. bookmakers were offering 2 to 1 on Fallacy agr'.nst the field. The Governor was present all the afternoon.
The Jockey Club Handicap of 150 soys, If miles ; 15 entries. The following started: Guy Fawkes, Flora Macdonald, Elsa, Lady Mary, Volturina, Stirabout. The lead was taken by Volturina, all the rest in a cluster, Redwood's pair running neck-and-neck in the second place, with Flora last. Volturina kept the lead for three quarters of a mile. Stirabout showed he wa« unable to collar him, and Guy challenged, soon taking the first place, which he maintained to the finish, although not called upon. Guy, 1; Flora, 2 ; Elsa, 3. The rest nowhere. Lady of the Lake threw ber rider half a mile from home.
The Hack Race was won by Wheeler's Kai, Tui second. A capital race. Consolation Handicap of 40 soys. Five started. It was a good race, and hot racing between Flora Macdonald and Princess Mary, but the former not being well girthed up, something went wrong with the saddle, and the rider fell off, putting her out of the race—Princess winning easily, Blue Jacket taking third place. This was the last race. H. Curry, a Government messenger, was seriously injured yesterday in the hydraulic lift at the new Government Buildings. While ascending he got jammed between the wood-work and the floor of the third storey, and was extricated with difficulty. Jrxis left thigh was broken, and right leg seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital and his leg was set. He ia progressing favourably to-day. . •
