i .At the General Synod last evening, in committee (Mr Carlton in the chair), on the, " Appointment of Pastors Bill," which occupied the entire evening, up to 2.30; a lengthy debate arose on clause 16, which was amended to the. effect that clergymen be at liberty, to withdraw from a cure six months after giving notice to the' bishop of such intention, whether such resignation be . accepted by the bishop or not, provided the clergyman has given a second, written notice, three months from the date of the former one. The remaining clauses were passed, with some slight verbal alterations* after, a great deal of discussion. The bill was then reported with amendments, and the third reading made an order of the day for Friday. On the motion, of Archdeacon Williams, the memorial of the trustees of the Hawke's Bay Trust was referred to the Committee oh Trusts. The Rev. Mr Ackland obtained leave to bring in a bill to amend statute No. 2^-which was read a first time. Archdearoh Stokes obtained leave to bring in a bill to alter the words in the schedule attached to the constitution, clause 5, for any term not more than sixty years. The bill was read a .first time. Archdeacon Maunsell moved the second reading of the bill for amend- I ing statute 21. Some discussion ensued, and the debate was adjourned until immediately after that on the Constitution Interpretation Bill. The Synod adjourned at 4.15. This afternoon the business was wholly formal.
