Meeting of the Water Supply Committed.
Yesterday, being the first Tuesday in the month, a meeting of the, Thames Water Supply Committee Was held in the Borough Council Chambers in accordance with rule.No: 4 laid down for the conduct of business There were present , —Messrs Macnab (in the chair), Scott, Bead, and Gibbons, : , ' The first business was the election of a chairman for the half year. >.-■'•■, Mr Scott proposed that Mr J. E. Macdonald be elected to such offiefc. :
Mr Bead seconded the*motion, which was carried. The minutes of the" last meeting were . read over and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Thomas James, manager of the Caledonian G-.M.C0., informing the Committee that, finding it impossible to get a supply of waterfrom the town pipes, he had the pipes leading 1o the mine connected with the mains of the Thames Water Pace.
A letter was read from •Mr K. I. Barnes of Dunedin saying that no . one ; in * the colony would - think of keeping in stock the pipes m ntioned in a former letter, but offering to obtain from England' either' 3, 5, or 10 inch cast iron pipes a£ the current market price, delivery to be made in about fire months. The letter stated that the p" "cc of pipes in England in November was from £6 15 sto£7 5s per ton. It was decided the letter should stand over until the loan of £2000 was raised.
Letters were read from Lodge No. 4409, Court Pride of Parnell; Loyal Waikato Lodge, No. 5444, 1.0.0. F., • and Loyal Charles Bruce'Lodge; No. 5373,1.0.0. F., all declining to tender for the proposed loan to the Water Supply Committee. The report of the , Works Committee was read as follows :—" Your committee hare the honor tp report that they find , the spring of water above Irish Town to be perfectly pare and fit for human consumption, and recommend that this water be utilised, and conreyed ia pipes orer'
various parts of Irish Town and Karaka, for the use of the residents, and that this work be carried out as soon as the funds of the committee will permit of the necessary expenditure.—A. Bjrodie, J. Gibbons."
- Accounts to the amount of £72 13s 8d were passed for payment. : Applications were read from residents p Pai*awai to have water laid on to their ipijemises ; . The turncock said it would take about 16CD feet of pipes at a cost of about £150. The matter was ordered to I'stand over.
