lv the case of.Uobertson v.. Ross, the jury, after being locked up for nearly five hours, brought in a verdict for the defendant. The verdict of three-fourths of the jury was taken under the Act passed last session, as the jury were not unanimous on all the issues, but were unanimous on the point that they were not likely to agreß as a whole on all the questions involved in the case. A cowardly a(lack was made last night on the Artillery band, near the corner of King and Union streets, as the band was playing and leading, the battalion. They were assaulted by a volley of stones. Sergeant R. Hogg, of the. band, was seriously hurt, his nose having been

broken ; and several members of the band were struck on the back of the head. Several were saved by their instruments, which were more or less damaged. No one could tell whence the missiles came.

The City Council now invite designs for the new municipal buildings, to be erected on the site fronting the Octagon, in Moray Place. The designs are to be so prepared that when all is,, completed, and the different parts of the building are erected, they shall form a complete and uniform whole at a cost of £30,000.
