FALSE DOCTEINE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sib, —I was glad to see in the Advertiser of last Tuesday an able letter written by "Lutheran" on the sermon preached by the Rev! V- Lush last Sunday morning. It is high time that the congregation of St. George's Church took a firm stand and demand of the Rev. Mr Lush to perlorm the duties he is appointed to do in accordance with the Protestant religion. If we want Roman Catholicism we can get it' in its purity in Willoughby street, and not mutilated by a half Protestant and half Romanish Priest. I consider it most insulting for any gentleman paid by a Protestant congregation to stand up in their pulpit and preach Roman Catholicism. Mr Lush must remember that he is placed in his present position and paid by the_congregation who have to listen to him, and that if they feel displeased at his doctrines they can appoint another gentleman in his place, St. George's Church and its management being entirely in the hands of its congregation ; the Bishop of Auckland has nothing whatever to do with it; the whole concern is in the hands of two trustees, who hold it for the benefit of members of the Reformed Church of England in this district. I most sincerely hope that our new Church Warden, Mr E. Hi Power, will fearlessly have the services of our Church strictly carried out according to the Protestant religion, and not allow himself to be domineered over by anyone. He must remember that he is in sole charge of the Church, having been appointed by the congregation who own it. I also hope that the Rev. V. Lush will, for the future, not attempt to preach wrong doctrines to us, but giye us sermons which our wives, daughters and sisters can listen to without blushing.—l am, &c, T.G. Shortland, January 24th, 1877. .
