Thames Mechanics' Institute.

A special meeting of the committee of the above Institute was held last night, at which a letter was read from Mr Severn resigning his position as VicePresident, owing to his leaving the colony. With great regret the resignation was accepted, and a resolution ordered to be placed upon the records of the Institute, testifying to the many services rendered by Mr Severn and the regret felt by the committee at losing his valuable assistance. It was further resolved that Mr Severn be entertained by the committee at a soiree, to be held at the Academy of Music, at which an address would be handed to him. A sub-committee was appointed to carry out the intentions of the committee, and at once took steps in the matter. Mr E. W. Hollis was elected Vice-President in the room of Mr Severn. This concluded the business.
