The head quarters of the Native Department are to be stationed in Auckland.
Mr Whitaker's opinion is that though the Counties Act is not fully brought into operation, subsidies will be paid to Road Boards, but not to counties.
The well at Secconibe's brewery collapsed last night and the machinery is buried in the debris, The well supplied the city when the domain water ran short. Damages estimated at £1000.
The Glance is wrecked at Tairua; captain and crew saved.
The Conslabulary force is to be reduced to 350 of all ranks, to be concentrated in districts adjacent to the King country.
