We understand that Mr Robert Graham purposes to become a candidate for membership of the Thames Harbor Board, and further, that it is his intention to start a steamer which is to run from Grahamstown to the hot springs regularly, leaving the Thames every Saturday. By pigeongram from Mackaytown we learn that the annual election of a ...school committee for the OhinemuriDistricWiook place on Tuesday. The report of the out-going committee (as printed in our columns yesterday) was adopted. Messrs Allom, Mitchell, Porter, Riordan and Batching were elected as a committee unanimously. Mr J. Home was in the chair. There was little interest in the proceedings, very few ratepayers being present. We hear from a private source that the final selection of the Twenty, or Twentytwdto play against the English Eleven, who, as will be seen by our telegrams, have already started from Sydney, will take place on Monday next. Mr W. W. Robinson, who. will most likely be selected Captain of the team, proceeds to Auckland, we believe, to aid in the selection. Mr G. R. Johnson unfortunately cannot play. A Panorama will be exhibited to-night in the Congregational Church, Shortland, in aid of the funds of the Congregational Church Sunday School. The Panorama will consist of twenty-three large views, illustrative of scenes in Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, and the various scenes will be described and explained by the Rev. R. Laishley. The price of admission is very small, and we hope to see a large attendance to-night. Me John Leydon held a sale of cattle and horses at the yards adjoining the Rob Roy Hotel, Parawai, yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance of buyers, although the afternoon was very wet, and the cattle realised good prices, all being sold. The horses did not go off so well. A cuEiotrs incident occurred at the sitting of the Good Templars' Grand Lodge the other day, says the Auckland Star. A brother was warm and glowing in the middle of a philosophic speech, when a lad was admitted with a telegraphic message from the Thames. As the chairman gleamed at the telegram, his eyes seemed to glow with new 'delight, and turning to the Council he said : "Brothers and sisters, — I have just received the pleasing message by telegram that my dear wife has been safely delivered of a son and heir." A general shout of exultation followed, and a score of voices uttered: "We wish you many happy returns of the day." We have received a copy of a very good view of Auckland, drawn on stone by Messrs Macffarlane and Begg, and lithographed at the Herald office :by Messrs Wilsons and Horton. The view is taken from the old windmill in Symonds street, and shows the principal part of the city, the harbor 1 and shipping, and the North Shore. Around the main picture

are views of churches, public buildings, theatre, and some of the recently erected mercantile establishments in Auckland, the whole being well executed, and creditable to artists and printers. To give people at a distance an idea of Auckland the picture is well adapted.

Oub Paeroa correspondent, by pigeon message to-day, says that notices are posted up at Paeroa in the Maori language stating that if the Te Aroha natives come there they will be shot. A pretty state of things, truly.
