Champion Whaleboat Eace, five miles. First prize, £50; second, £5. Danger (Grahamstown) ... ... 1 Cutty Sark (Nelson) ... t ... 2 Thistle (Nelson) ... 3. Colonist 4 Our Boys (Timaru) arid Echo (Port Nicholson) retired after the second mile. Danger took the lead shortly after a capital start, Thistle in close company. Past the first buoy Danger increased the lead to a length, and continued to gain until at the end of the first round she was three lengths ahead. In passing the buoy the third time, Cutty Sark tackled the Thistle, and passing last buoy before her winning. Danger was llsecs. ahead of Cutty Sark and 4j of the Thistle, and won a splendid race by 12secs. Cutty Sark had a scratch crew, got together only half an hour before the race.
