This day. An English Ship Ashore. - The ship Glenlora, from London, is reported ashore at the JJangitoto reef. She is stated to have got ashore last night at eleven in a gale and darkness. A steamer is going down to her assistance. Later.—The Ship off the Rocks. Between twelve and one o'clock this morning the GleDlora was coming into
harbor. The night was dark, very little wind from the N.W.; the tide about half ebb. The ship steered S.W". by S. The captain and officers were on deck. On the north side of Rangitoto reef the ship had- just opened out the Bean Rock light, the captain intending to stand over about another mile, then haul his ship .to the light. He thought it was quite clear, when the look-out sang out "Hard a starboard; something ahead." The captain sprang to the wheel, and immediately afterwards the ship slipped on to the rocks. The tide being at ebb, and the wind dead aft, it was impossible to get her off by the aid of sails. About half-an-hour after she struck, the steamer Lalla Rookh saw rockets and went to her assistance, and encountered the pilot boat looking out fpr the mail steamer. Capt. Burgess went on board the steamer, and proceeded to the assistance of the Glenlora. The two captains came to an arrangement, and the Lalla.Rookh put out a kedge; then went for the Ent3rprise 'to assist in tiwing her (Glenlora) off. On the return of the two steamers found the Glenlora bad hove herself to the anchor. The two steamers towed her to the wharf. She makes no water, and is reported to be uninjured. She brings a full compliment of passengers, cargo, and 7.3 fine sheep.
