COUNTY COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the Thames County Council was held last night in the Warden's Court. All the Councillors were present. SLAUGHTER HOUSES. The letters of the solicitors of Messrs Dalziel and Banks, requesting licenses for slaughterhouses, were again read over.
Cr Spencer said as he was the representative of Parawai, he would tell them what he knew on the subject. A meeting had been held of the inhabitants of Parawai, and an expression of opinion passed that both the slaughter houses' should be removed. Of course, if a license was granted to one it would have to be granted to the other, but at the same time he thought that if a license were granted it should be with the proviso that the slaughter house would have to be removed at no distant period.
Cr Mitchell proposed, and Mr Bagnall seconded, that the licenses be granted for one year on payment of a fee of £25, subject to such, regulations as might be made. The motion was carried. BANK. Cr Mitchell stated that the manager of the Bank of New Zealand was prepared to grant an overdraft of £500, and moved that an account be opened at that bank forthwith, and that the Bank of New Zealand be appointed bankers to the County Council. Cr Spencer seconded the motion, which was carried. Crs Spencer and Bagnall were appointed to sign the necessary cheques. COMMON SEAL FOB THE COUNTY. Cr Mitchell thought they could get a stamp sufficient for their present need* at a cost of a guinea and a-half. , It was resolved that Crs Spencer and Thorburn be requested to get an appropriate seal, the cost not to exceed £5. SOLICITORS. The question of having a special solicitor was discussed. Cr Mitchell thought the Attorney-General would give an opinion when called upon to do so. The question was allowed to lapse. BYE-LAWS. Crs Coutts, Thorp and Thorburn were appointed a committee to frame bye-laws regarding pedlers and slaughter houses. THE BIG JUMP. Cr Bagnall regretted that they were in no better position to discuss this question than they were before, and proposed that the further consideration of it stand over until the next meeting. Cr Mitchell seconded the motion, which was carried. APPLICATIONS. It was resolved that all applications for offices to the Council be received up to 10 o'clock on Tuesday next. Applications to be addressed to the. Chairman, at the Government offices, Grahamstown. PRINTING. The Chairman and Cr Mitchell were appointed to see that the bye-laws of the Council were printed. NOTICE OP MOTION. Cr Mitchell gave notice that, at Tuesday's meeting, he would move, " That the Chairman be directed to make application to the Government to cause the erection of a bridge over the Kauaeranga river, for the purpose of maintaining the traffic line between the Thames and Ohinemuri.
