SHOCKING SUICIDE IN ENGLAND.
Last night Mr John Humphreys, the Coroner for the Eastern Division of 'Middlesex, opened an inquest]at the London Hospital on the body of Lucy Augusta Higden, aged 38, the wife of a turner, who committed suicide by cutting her throat under most shocking circumstances. John. Higden, a turner, stated that the deceased was his wife, and had been in a low and depressed condition for several months past. The reason for this was that some six months ago she was, on a visit to a friend at Tottenham, and while walking home through some fields, was seized, and outraged by a lot of men. From that time she had fits of melancholy, and the outrage upon her honor so preyed upon her mind that she suffered from the most terrible delusions. On the 13th of October he took her break* fast up to her as usual, and a few minutes afterwards, in consequence of what his' daughter told him, he went up stairs and found his wife covered with blood, with a large wound in her throat and a knife by her side j and he had no doubt that, in consequence of the shocking outrage per* petrated upon her, her miud had become unhinged and she had committed suicide. The Coroner having remarked upon the frightful nature of Ihe case, the jury returned a verdict of " Suicide whilst of unsound mind."—London Telegraph, Octo» ber 28. . •
