In the mine no occurrence of interest has taken place within the last week or. so. Work is steadily proceeding, and the quartz floor at the battery is full of quartz. Tlie manager is taking advantage of the holidays- to give the battery a thorough overhaul, to make it fit for another long spell of continuous work. The cams have all been taken off and are being steeled, and anything requiring repairs about the stampers or stamper-boxes is being attended. Such of the berdans as required it are being re-linedi and the boilers are receiving a thorough overhaul, and'wre being bricked in afresh.' Some dozen men and boys are employed cleaning out the reservoir, which was nearly half full of..sludge. .[. A, Yankee pump driven by a donkey engine is employed to pump the thin sediment, and the thick sludge is taken out by means of a windlass manned by several men. This job, which has been a work of considerable magnitude, will be finished on Monday or Tuesday next, and the battery repairs will be so far completed as to allow crushing to commence about Thursday. The stoppage will thus be longer than was at first anticipated, it having been expected that Monday would see the stampers going. ,
