It is reported that several insurance companies here and in Sydney have received telegrams confirming the loss of the City of Seringapatam. Sydney, December 25. The captain and crew were picked up by the steamer New England, after being nine hours in the boat. : The sculling match between Trickett's brother and Solomon was won easily by the latter. A report has been made to the police of further cruelty to boys at the Handwick Asylum. Sickness on board the mail steamer Brisbane is reported—malignant smallpox. . ■ Adelaide, 26th, A fire occurred at Margery's Mill. Ninety tons of flour were destroyed. It is supposed it was the wort of an incendiary. The loss is estimated at nine thousand pounds, insured for thirty-five thousand. White won. the match against Roberts by 137, the latter giving 700 out of 1000.. A man named Dudley stabbed his wife seriously last night in a fit of jealousy. A girl named Higgins was burnt to death through her clothes catching fire. Wylde beat Roberts last nightby 328. The same odds were given as with White.
