A. frightful accident occurred at 7 o'olock on Wednesday morning at the Queen's Birthday Company's mine, JJunolly: Iv changing shift a miner named Alfred Pullen was landing from a skip at the surface when he slipped back down the shaft 400 ft. He was of coarse killed instantaneous^ The bo<iy was so knocked about in the fall that it had to be tied up in cloth to be sent to the surface. Mr Cook, district coroner, .being too ill to hold an inquest, and the police magistrate, MrOrme, being away at Huritly acting for Mr Cogdon, who is ill, the police telegraphed for Mr Laidman from Mary, borough, but no reply has been received yet (20th). > : • /i-{

A lad in the employment of- Messrs Lloyd Brothers, Broadford, was bitten on the left finger by a black snake, while engaged in bringing in firewood. He at once cut the finger off mih an axe, and was immediately taken to Dr Purrier, who dressed the wound. He is now quite out of danger..

The schooner Postboy, 60 tons, frott Port McDonnell to Adelaide; capsized twelve miles from Crlenelg. Six bands were lost, including two passengers. There is but one surviror,the mate, named Cave, who was picked up by, Sir.William Milne's yacht, after being seven hours in the water. The disaster was caused bj a sudden squall. s ' '• • :
