A good start was effected. Skylark went off with a slight lead, which she maintained until passing the Grand Stand. At the first distance post Fanny Fisher colt came through his horses, and collared Skylark, and on coming from behind the hill, Fanny Fisher led by a length, after a splendid race fora quarter of a mile with Skylark, the rest tailing off. Coming into the straight again, Fanny Fisher went inside the post, and then came in at leisure, leading past the post by a length and a half. Derby and Aconite raced for third place, the former leading past the post by a neck. The following is the result of the race:

Another horse showed up just at starting. There was one false start. Ariel was fractious at the post. A good start was effected, Ariel leading, Danebury and Isaac Walton close up. At a quarter of a mile from the start The Belle, who was behind, fell, rolling over her rider. She broke her shoulder. The rider unhurt. From this point the horses were in a cluster. At the cutting Isaac Walton went up, Danebury 2nd, the Don 3rd. Coming to the straight Danebury collared his horses and led by about a yard. Isaac Walton, having the inside running, Ariel pushing'hard forfirst place. Passing the Stand Ariel led by half-a-length, Danebury 2nd, Isaac Walton 3rd. They kept this position for some distance. At the hill the second time round Isaac Walton again went up, and improved hit chances. At the mile and a half Ariel led by a length, Danebury falling off; Isaac Walton's chances gone. Ariel maintained his lead to the finish, winning ' by two lengths. Time 3 ruins. 54^ .sees, j The Belle was shot by Captain Fraser's order. A great deal of sympathy is felt for him. He is a plucky straightforward sportsman, and deserves better luck. The mare slipped owing to the nature of the course. The shoulder was completely shattered.
