Result of the Caversham election— Cargill, 175; Seaton, 222. The Portobello returns are not yet in, but they will mako Seafcon's majority greater. The Provincialists thus gain another victory. At the Invercargill nomination G. Lumsden and J. K. Cuthberton were proposed. The show of hands was in favor of Cuthberton. At Eichmond, Waimea nomination, Shepherd and Baigent were proposed. The show of hands was in favor of Baigent. The Christchurch Central Board of Health have instructed the health officer at Lyttelton to inspect all intercolonial vessels before they communicate with the shore, with a view to prevent the introduction of scarlet fever. They have also decided to request the Health Officers at other ports in New Zealand to inform the Board of anything occurring in. their respective districts connected with scarlet fever.
