SCARLET FEVER—AN EXPLANATION.

Sib, —I will save you the trouble of telling Mr W. McDowell who is your "mendacious reporter" of the second case of scarlet fever at his house by stating that I am that personage. Yesterday I asked Dr Lethbridge if there were any more cases of scarlst fever, he replied that there was another case at Mr W. McDowell's, where the fever broke out, and another on the Tararu Road, but he declined to give the name or precise locality of the latter case.—l am, &c, J. A. Philp. [Had Mr McDowell taken the trouble to enquire at the Star office the name of our informant, instead of making vague, unfounded and general charges, he would have been able to get the information he seems so desirous to obtain, without descending to low and scurrilous abuse. —Ed.
