As our issue of last night must have led people to expect, the three missing men from the vessels Fanny Fothergill and Fairy turned up; in safety last night at 7 o'clock, having left Porter's Creek, where they had been kindly entertained, yesterday morning. :
... We learn that Messrs Price Brothers have obtained the contract for the new 24 inch plunger'-and fixings for the United Pumping Association. This contract is an extensive one, and we are glad to see that the work is -to be performed on the Thames. Some/of the heaviest castings for the plunger at the 400 feet level of the Pumping' Association were executed at Price Brothers' foundry, and gave every satisfaction/as we have ho doubt the contract just arranged will do also. The execution of tho various castings and other necessaries will occupy a considerable time. .
We are glad to learn that the rain of the last few days has brought down about 500 logs to the booms of the Shorfland Saw Mill Company; This opportune supply has come in the nick of^timeftp keep the mill going with the present large orders on hand. -f " -■ ■ * —-- Vrff

Hrs Worship the Mayor, J. E. Macdonaid, Esq., has presented a handsome teapot to be competed for on the 27th instant by the members of the various Friendly Societies, on the occasion of the demonstration in" aid of the Thames Hospital. l
Available silver cup has been presented to the Thames Scottish Volunteers by Mr Wm. Miirdock, for riflo competition. This trophy is one of the most useful of the many prizes given to this popular company for exciting a commendable emulation among its sharp shooters.
As an indication of the thorough confidence which Shortland people hare in the future we may point to the recent extensive alterations effected by Mr; O. Grant in his bakery and retail store, Pollen street, near "Butt's Hotelr^Mr Grant has entirely remodelled the place, and is now in a position to execute orders for any description of plain and fancy bakery. He haj3 also entered upon the manufacture of biscuits, and- fancy goods of all descriptions. At this season of Christmas Shortlahd people will do well to pay a visit to Mr Grant's establishment. He is au old identity, and will no doubt rally round, him many old. friends and supporters. :; ' ' " |

Mr J. 0. Fikth is to come down in the steamer this afternoon with a supply of salmon ova. The Buona Ventura is to bo in readiness to take Mr Firth and his precious freight, to the tipper Thames; but the streams in which the ova is to be deposited we do not know. No doubt Mr Firth will be guided by circumstances"
