Waiotahi District History Prize.

The competition for the English History prize offered to the pupils attending the Waiotahi School district took place to-day in the Thames School. AH the masters and heads of the various schools.. were present, and in addition ■ Messrs Brodie, Bowe, and Sims, members of the . school committee. The examination papers were handed in with the instruction that they were to be opened at the appointed time in the presence of at least * three people. This was done, and the papers being opened, a certificate that this instruction had bieen complied with, signed by Messrs Moore,' Horgan, Maberly and B. Skeen was handed in. Out o? the twenty whoie names were originally announced as com-" petitors only fifteen presented themselves f for examination, of whom 5 were from the Thames school, 5 .from Shelback, 3 from Waiotahi, and 1 each from Punga Flat and Eureka schools. The papers were given out at 10 o'clock and collected again at 12.30, and consisted of nine questions in English History embracing the period ■ from the landing of the Romans to the^ present time. Messrs Wilkinson, Carfp penter and Dr Kilgour, are the examiners for the prize which is a handsome edition of Agnes Strickland's "Lives of the Queens of England."
