Parawai School Examination.
Today the prizes were awarded to the scholars of the Farawai District School. There were about 80 pupils present under the control of Mr Compton and Miss Bennett. Amongst the visitors present were the following:—Rev. V. Lush, Major Cooper, Mr Spencer, and Mr Vernon. Mrs Mackay awarded the prizes to the fortunate winners, of whom the following is the list:— : Fifth Class. Charles J. O'Keeffe, grammar, geography ; Charles J. O'Keeffe, composition, history, and reading; Wm. B. O'Keeffe, arithmetic and spelling; Wm. B. O'Keeffe, history; Alfred Joslin, Ist prize for writing and good reading; Charles L. Bagnall, 2nd prize for reading and highest number of marks. Fouhth Class. Charles Cropp, Ist prizes arithmetic; Charles Cropp, grammar and history; Frederick fßrown, Ist prize, writing; Alfred Vernon, Ist prize, reading; Matilda Smith, 2nd prize, reading; Watson Thompson, 2nd prize, writing and improvement in arithmetic; William Oaks, composition and geography; Charles Wright,'2rid prize, arithmetic. After the prizes had been distributed refreshments were given to the scholars who appeared ;to enjoy this proceeding very much, and having well partaken of the good things provided for their enjoyment, the pupils were dismissed for the Christmas holidays.
