Wednesday. Mr J. C. Brown, in announcing himself for Lawrence, goes in for federation, and separation. Strong efforts are being, made to get Mr Bastings to oppose him. The Times says the Dunedin seats are nearly going begging because of the fear of the lpngth of the future sessions. "It would be no breach of confidence to mention names, but it is no secret that there are men amongst us svho have proved themselves able administrators in their dealings with provincial affairs who have refused to be put in nomination solely upon this ground. This is one of the difficulties we shall have to face in the future, and it is a very great one, and admits of no remedy." James Laurie, engine-driver, as the train neared Invercargill, 'leaned outside the engine to see if all was clear, when his head came in contact with the timber platform. He was injured very severely but not fatally. . There was splendid shooting at the Association's matches yesterday, by McKenzie, of Waikari, who, in the extra match, made 56 out of a possible 60 at 300, 400, and 500 yards.

; . -„ Thursday. The nomination for Dunedih took place to-day. The following are the names proposed and the show of hands:—Stout, 149; Macandrew, 97; Macassey, 89; Armstrong, 76 ; Larnach, 39; Grant, 23 ; Reynolds, 16; Fish, 16. A poll was demanded by Mr Reynolds. It is stated that Mr Macassey will retire in favor of Mr Larnach and contest Caversham. Mr;; Reynolds, if unsuccessful in ■Dunedin, will try Roslyn, Mr Jas. Mills will very likely come forward; for tjje Port. The polling takes place oa Monday.
