Naval Rowing Club.
As advertised, there was a general meeting of this Club last Saturday night, held at the Pacific Hotel, to take into consideration the best means and the advisability of sending a crew and two boats to represent this district at the Intei'provincial Regatta to be held at Wellington on the 22nd January next. There were present the officers of the Club and about twenty members. It was finally resolved to send a crew to Wellington, and one outrigger and one inrigged gig to pull for the two all-comers prizes, amounting to £250, as well as a pair-oared boat, and, if possible, two extra men. The crew selected comprises four very excellent oarsmen, viz.: H. Goldsworthy, T. Goldsworthy, R. Newdick, Jno. Newdick and ,T. Savage, coxswain. We understand that the Club have raised amongst themselves the sum of £50, but will require quite £50 more to meet all expenses and keep their crew in training for at least one month, which it is hoped there will be no difficulty in raising. There was a special committee formed to collect the necessary subscriptions, of which Mr Wm. Goldsworthy, the captain of the club, was appointed treasurer, Mr Arthur Bennett secretary, and the National Bank bankers.
