WELLINGTON.
Wednesday. The following nominations for the Mayoralty were received this afternoon: —Mr Gisborne, proposed by Messrs Pharazyn, Mclntyre, Tringham, and E. W. Mills ; Mr Rutchinson, proposed by Messrs Hunt, T. W. Young and Toomath. The poll takes place on Wednesday. The storm of last night and to-day was the most violent that has been felt for many years. The s.s. Napier searched the coast for parties reported to be missing, and brought back five others reported to be missing. Sir George Grey, in one of his late speeches, is reported to have said " The telegrams that are sent to you are actually filtered out by the Government." If Sir G-. Grey, in making this statement, referred to the telegrams sent by the Press Agency, we wish to say that the assertion is utterly untrue, and appears to be malicious.
