SIR GEORGE GREY'S SPEECH.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sir,—After listening to Sir George Grey on Saturday night, I for one must say that some of his shots were very badly aimed; he hits friends instead of foes; most particularly in his allusions to land jobbers buying in blocks. For instance, his friend Mr K. Graham was the first to begin the game on the Thames; the Civil Commissioner at the time was the only person to raise his voice against ;iti till he was ordered by Sir George Grey's NatiTe_ Minister, the Hon. J. C. liichmondj, not -to interfere* for Mr Graham was a member of the General Assembly, and ex-Superintendent of the Province of Auckland ; of course smaller fry followed suit; The Provincial Government, supposed to be the most interested, let 'em went. Also his< alluding to the action of the General Assembly voting money in a lump sum was very happy. Why,the very thing we complain of is that same trick of the ■ Provincial Council; didn't the Executive take £5000 from the Goldfields Revenue after all salaries were voted, and charge it for management, and paid it without; vouching or even stating who the mana-. ger was. la that so or no? O, ye worshippers of the Provincial Calf.—l am, &c, : . .■■■-■■. .■., '•' .■■■ : H. Chabnlet. BlockXVII.: Thames, December 6th. >!
