HUTT.

This day.

The Eutt Races.

Owing to a constant dull drizzling rain all the morning the appearance of the course wasrather tame, ."but about noon a great many people arrived, and the scene became very animated. His Excellency the Qorernor arrired on the ground at 12.20.

First race: Maiden Plate of 100 soys, a mile and half; six entered, Pungawerewere commenced r the racing and led. Tattler kept close alongside, followed equally close by Cocksure. For the first quarter of a mile all were well up, but after that Lady Grey, Banker and Voltaririe fell astern. Coming to the run home Tattler, Pungawerewere, and Cocksure were all in a cluster, not half a length between each, and they raced in that order the remainder of the distance, all whipping as they passed the Judge's stand —Tattler a good neck ahead of Pungawerewere, Cocksure some distance behind Pungawerewere. It was the prettiest race, run on the course; time 2min.47 sec. .

Wellington Cup Handicap, 200 soys., two.niiles. There were seven entries, but only five came to the scratch, Banker and Glenavy^being scratched. Voltaire went off with a lead, but soon dropped back, apparently hard held. Tambourini gallopedheavily and showed he had no chance. Guy Fawkes and Korari took the lead and raced side by side all the way, followed pretty close by Templeton. When neafv ing the run home E.orari was pressed by Templeton, who came up on Guy Fawkes and passed him. A desperate struggle then took place in the straight for first place between Korari and Templeton— Templeton was whipped all the way in, but Korari kept about a length and a half ahead, and won by that distance, Guy being several lengths behind. Time* 3 mm. 55 sec.
