Thames Volunteer Champion Belt.
The second competition for this belt took place on Saturday under not very favourable circumstances. In the morning the light was variable and the wind gusty and very strong from the right. In the afternoon the wind was strong from the rights On this occasion the Shortland Native Volunteers were allowed one point at 200 yds, 2 joints at 500 and 2 points at 600 yds. There were 44 entries of whom 43 competed., We hear that it has been suggested that in future competitions range prizes should be gi veiu ■ ; Had this been the case, on Saturday Seaman Gordon of the Navals would have taken the 200-yards prize with, a score of 17 points. Vol. Ileron T.S/V. the. 500 yards with 16 (tied by Captain Murray and Vols. Grundy and Bull) and Lieut. Meremana" the 600 yards prize, with a v score of 14.
