GOLDHELDS ROAD.
Messrs Brodie (chairman) W. Logan and C. Hill, of the. Waiotahi Highway Board, waited on Sir George Grey to bring under his notice the great want of a road through the district to open up the district to miners, so that claims now abandoned or but partially worked might be made reproductive. The deputation .was introduced by Mr W. Carpenter, M.P.C After the business had been put before His Honor he stated that he had no funds. at his disposal for the purpose, but he would bring the
matter under the notice of the Government with a view to induce them to undertake the work. A long conversation bjok place,,, during; which the claims of the di«wict''*rere urged upon the attention of Sir j&eorge Grey, and the amount to which tbJe'district would have been entitled had some such law as the Abolition Bill been 'in.force. Sir George Grey received the deputation favorably, and promised to do hjs best to forward their interests.
