DEPUTATION'S.

TAIIIUA BOAD.

A deputation from Tairua, consisting of Messrs Rawden, Browning and Gillon, waited on His Honor the Superintendent this morning regarding the formation of a track to Tairua.

The deputation was introduced by his Worship the Mayor, who said that though he had been asked to introduce the deputation, yet he was sure they would make their own wants most plainly known, and therefore he would leave it to them to state tho business on which they had come.

Mr Gillon produced a copy of the Evening Star of November 22nd, containing an account of a meeting held at Puriri, at which a deputation was appointed to wait upon His Honor regarding the assistance required in making a road to.Tairua.

Mr McLaren produced plans of the district, and—

Mr Gillon said that it was thought the main range would be the best for the transit of machinery, and the contractors —one of whom (MrJßawden) was present —thought it the only practicable way. What they wanted was aid in the matter.

Sir George Grey asked' what aid was required. Mr Gillon was not able to say, but thought that perhaps Mr McLaren might be able to assist them.

Mr McLaren asked if £50 would.do.. Mr Eawden thought it would require more than that.

His Honor said he would tell Mr Me-! Laren to get it done, and as regarded making a main road told Mr McLaren to try and find one, and if the place was worth it assured the deputation that it should

be made; but that in the mean time what they first asked for should be done. Mr Gillon said they had another matte^tp bring before His Honor's noticel^tfndwUaat was to ask him to get the Puriri laiadi^open for the purpose of \ agricultural sdttenient. ' , I : His Honor instructed Mr Eice ,to itele- 1 graph to Mr iTole/and enquire if there iweW any lands ; in the Puriri District belonging to the. Provincial Government; 'available for settlement^ and said that "if there were he would have them opened at once. The deputation thanked His Honor and withdrew. ♦_
