Sir George Grey's Arrival at the Thames.
Shortly before six o'clock last evening Sir George Grey arrived at Grahamstown wharf on board the s.s. Manaia. Captain Goldsmith and Mr K. Graham met him at the end of the wharf, and accompanied him to the shore. At th« toll-house, Sir George, on being recognised, was cheered by a number of Maoris, and as soon as he had cleared himself from the crowd was met by Dr Kilgour and Messrs Cowell, Bent, Brodie, Bagnall, and Brown. Three cheers were immediately called for, and given for Sir George Grey, and three for Mr Graham, after which Dr Kilgour said—" Sir George Grey, I have been deputed by a public meeting of the inhabitants to present to you an address of welcome, and have much pleasure in being the medium of communication between you and the inhabitants of the Thames." Dr Kilgour then read the address, which was the same as we published yesterday, and presented it to Sir George. The cheering was renewed, and Sir George having inquired for the Mayor, a"nd learning that he was not present, said~"Dr Kilgour and Gentlemen, I beg you to thank on my behalf those gentlemen who have signed this address, and assure them that ever since I have been Superintendent I have done ail I could on behalf of the Thames in common with my efforts .for the good of the whole province. They have no one who I ia a truer or warmer friend than myself, ! or who would do more to serve them. I Allow me to thank you again for this address." His Honor then proceeded to the Pacific Hotel, and the crowd dispersed. '
