We are requested to call the attention of our readers to an advertisement of the s.s. Pearl, which will leave for Coromandel afc 8 o'clock this evening.

A eequisition to Dr Kilgour, asking him to contest the Thames Election, has been prepared and was taken round today. Dr Kilgour has a long colonial experience; he is a gentleman of considerable attainments, and he is no stranger to political life. We believe he would stand a good chance of election if the number of candidates spoken of go to the poll. He should make an excellent representative.

Me R. Liang is advertised to> preach this evening in the Karak a School at 7.30.

The boiler purchased for the Queen of the May, formerly used at the Central Italy mine,-was taken along tlie street today on a trolley, drawn by a team of eleven fine horses. Along the level road the horses were almost able to trot with their load, but they had a pretty tough pull up the steep incline of the WaioKaraka road.

The following circular extending the time during which, the firing for choice of representatives at the Colonial Prize Firing will take place, has been received at the Militia and Volunteer Office :— "Native and Defence Office (Militia and Volunteer Branch) Wellington, 25th November, 1875. 1. On account of the delay in the issue of Sniders to several Corps, and, in order to give each Corps the opportunity of testing the new ■weapons with which it has been supplied, the Hon. the Native Minister has approved the following changes :—Choice of .Representatives for the Colonial Prizes for infantry, in lieu of the District Representatives having to be selected by the 11th December, no fixed date will be insisted on for the preliminary firing, but the two competitions-must be completed before the 31st January, 1876, and the returns despatched, so as to arrive in this office by ■ the 10th February. 2. AH winners of the long Snider rifles which were given as prizes at the North aud

South matches at previous competitions for Colonial Prizes will be permitted to use such rifles in the firing for the Government Prizes, provided they have been in no way tampered with since their presentation, to the respective winners.
