KARAKA.

The general features of this crept have assumed a more business aspect than formerly. This arises (rom the fact of so many of our miners thrown on their own resources, and have taken up ground in the hope and expectation of striking a payable reef of which,there have been a, few instances lately of success; the Rocky Point at the lower end of the creek "having crushed for a yield of two ounces to the ton, and several pieces of ground have beea taken up. with a view to strike the continuation of that lode. Many other parties are wiring in in different parts of the creek, and the four batteries are kept busy principally by the tord Nelson '" shareholders, the Little Sbsie*, the Moa tributers, the Martin shareholders, the Victory owners, and the Trafalgar people who have lately reconstructed the old Holrianga mill, and are now testing wholesale a reef of stringers with goods walls.not less than 6 feet thick with a fair prospect^ of success. The tramway, which is in a fair state of preservation, greatly facilitates prospecting in this locality, and many of the lodes that were deemed too poor formerly may now be wrought with profit by skiliul workmen.
