NONPAREIL.
Ihe long-expected No- 2 reef formerly worked with profit, and upon which.a winze had been sank some B(s'feet? <'tyit had to be abandoned on account of water,' '* has been intersected' in the bottom drive. This has been accomplished by utilizing the Italian shaft, now part of the Nonpareil property, and driving from it through very hard country. - The main drive is in about 150 feet and cross-cuts right and left p -.it in for other 50 feet. la the south-west cross-cut, a small goodlooking leader about 1 foot crashing dirt was met with, and may be worked by-and-bye. In the cross-cut to the north-' east through good country the leader No.-' 2 has been met, as also the bottom of" the winze. For a few days back the quantity of gas and water precluded any attempt to work it, but now all being clear, operations are centred upon this work. The lode is three feet wide, showsa little gold in the face, and has the. appearance of maintaining its formel? good character. In a few days, the mul-L lock will be out of jthe \way/ it being whipped lip the Italian shaft to the surface, rails laid to face of drive, and the leader fairly in hand for breaking down by driving on it both ways, and as soon as practicable stopingifrom the ■winze commences. Tlie vertical height between i the levels is 70 feet, but the length of backs on, the reef will be upwards of 80. Should the lode prove equal to expectations, the company will do well to take* steps for removing their present engine "to? the Italian shaft site," where it will be of service for working the present levels,, and also an additional one that can be secured as the shaft is already down' 80 feet below the present workings.
