MELBOURNE.
November 23,
The convict Weechurch has been convicted of an attempt to murder a warder at Pentridge Stockade, and has been sentenced to death.
Two children have been drowried at Schnapper Point. A man named Davis, trying to save;them, was also drowned.
During the last, few day rumours have been freely mentioned that 1 the late Captain Gray, of the Great Britain, did not commit suicide, "but was pushed overboard ; but this has not been traced to any reliable foundation.
At the Criminal Court the recognizances of Mr Lee, publisher of the Police News> have, been estreated, he hot being in attendance.
Steps have been" taken for holdiag a Telegraphic Conference ; all the Colonies to be represented.
. The Committee of the V. E. J. Club have investigated Mason'scase, and decided against him. On the part of Mason, it was alleged that, it was a' case of mistaken identity of a person of the same name ■, who formerly. resided at Richmond, but is now gone to Sydney. An Adelaide telegram states that Gould reports that two bird 3 have been discovered by the Lake Eyre Exploring Expedition quite new to science.
